Project Identify: Krista Romero

Who Was “Krista Romero“?

For many years, people knew me by the name Krista Romero. It was the name I used from approximately 1997 until 2010.

But there has never been a birth certificate for a person born as Krista Romero. There has never been a death certificate for Krista Romero. It was not the name I was born with, and it was never the end of my story.

I was born Krista Kirton.

When my son, Tyler Smith Romero, was born, I carried the last name KIRTON. Like many women, my legal identity changed during this chapter of my life to Krista Romero. Over time, however, I realized that my identity was much deeper than the name printed on a driver’s license or other documents.

Names tell part of a story—but they do not define the whole person.

Rediscovering Myself

Life has a way of taking us through seasons.

Some seasons are full of joy.
Some are filled with sacrifice.
Others require us to rediscover who we truly are.

Around 2008, I began returning to the person I had always been at my core.

I found Krista Kirton again.

Today I am legally known as K. Kirton Niner, carrying both my family heritage and the life I have built with my husband and children. That name represents my past, my present, and the direction I continue to move.

Why This Matters

This project exists because history matters.

When people search names, they often assume they are searching different people. In reality, one person’s life can be recorded under several names throughout different chapters.

For anyone researching my history, these names refer to the same individual:

  • Krista Kirton
  • Krista Romero
  • K. Kirton Niner

Understanding that connection helps preserve the continuity of my family’s history and provides context for Tyler’s story as well.

Tyler’s Story

Tyler was raised by a mother known at that time as Krista Romero.

Today, that same mother is K. Kirton Niner.

Nothing about my love for my son changed because my name changed.

Nothing about my love for my son changed because his name changed with mine to Tyler Romero Niner.

I am the woman who held him as a baby…
the woman who raised him as a Sole-parenting Teenage Mom…
the woman who continues to hope for his future no matter how old he is now…

we have always been the same eternal family.

More Than a Name

Our identities are built through our choices, our relationships, our faith, our service, and the lives we touch—not simply by the names we carry during different seasons.

This page exists to connect those seasons together.

If you encounter records referencing Krista Romero, know that they belong to one chapter in the life of the woman who was born Krista Kirton and who today proudly signs her name:

K. Kirton Niner
